Black Mesa media update

Bullsquid

Bullsquid from media update

The Black Mesa devs have squished rumours that the mod is dead by releasing a new media update. The mod has now been in development for a massive 7 years! The new media update shows some map overviews and the above picture of the bullsquid. Interestingly, it looks like the bullsquid’s glowing spit has stuck to the crowbar, something that didn’t happen in the original Half-Life.

Also in the media update are some pics from September showing character models and some maps with dev texturing. To see the rest of the media visit the link below.

iOS GTA3 release date approaching

Promo poster
The epic classic title from rockstar games shall soon be making it’s debut on iOS. Initially only to be available for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S, Rockstar have announced that the title will later be made available for older single core devices such as the iPhone 3GS.

The popular title from 2001 was the first foray into the world of 3d for the GTA series and was a massive success when it was released on Playstation 2. I have fond memories of tearing round the streets and running people over, and am looking forward to repeating the experience on an iPad

The initial release to the app store is expected to be on 22nd November, and is likely to generate a large amount of sales. We’ll be bringing you a full review once the title has been released!

Goldeneye

13 years after the release of the original game Nintendo have announced this remake. The game will be exclusively available for Nintendo Wii.

Goldeneye for the N64 was a timeless masterpiece, a standard by which every FPS since has been compared. It will be interesting to see if Nintendo can really recapture the success of the original Rareware title.

Judging by the screenshots and the trailer that have been released, the developers have chosen to keep the map layouts for at least some of the areas the same as those in the original game. By the looks of it, many areas have been expanded on and given more detail compared to the original, where the amount of visible stuff was limited drastically by the N64′s 4MB of RAM and puny processing power. In fact the graphics are quite pleasing to look at but are definitely not describable as photorealistic.

There is a trailer available at the Official Nintendo Magazine website, you can watch it here.

We will keep you updated about this title :) .

Dead Space 2

Dead Space 2 is a survival horror third-person shooter being the sequel to Visceral Games’ Dead Space with the release date announced as Tuesday 25th January 2011. In Dead Space 2, Isaac has post-traumatic stress from the events in Dead Space 1 and because of this has understandably gone insane. Dead Space 2 takes place on a densely inhabited space station called ‘The Sprawl’. The game begins in the hospital area of this space station and you get to witness the Necromorph infection take over the station from the start. This sequel promises to be scarier and more action packed than its predecessor which judging by the graphics should live up to expectation…

There have been several developments and improvements to the game such as the improved use of telekinesis during combat to be able to grab an enemy and impale its limbs. Another exciting feature will be the addition of multiplayer which looks to allow you to be able to ‘strategically dismember your friends’; hopefully the addition of multiplayer will not affect the gaming experience for each single player too considerably. The improved use of zero gravity allows the player to change the gravity in certain areas and allowing movement with the use of jets.

Only time will tell whether this enhanced and redeveloped successor to the initial Dead Space really will be as dynamic and enthralling as it is hoped to be.

Portal 2 Preview

Portal 2 logoComing in 2011 is the highly anticipated sequel to Valve’s critically acclaimed title Portal. The new Portal game promises to be much longer than the first instalment which wasn’t really considered to be a ‘proper’ game by the developers. However as Portal attracted so much attention, Valve have decided to make their sequel a full length game.
The developers have upgraded the game engine (SOURCE) to support better graphics for Portal 2; A good thing considering the age of the engine. And some of the screenshots released so far look pretty nice.

Portal 2 test chamber

Look familiar?

The game is set a long time after the events of Portal. Screenshots released so far show some of the old test chambers, broken and crumbling with age.
